CCR Operator
Technology: Combined Cycle Gas Turbine (CCGT) Department: Operations Reporting To: Shift Supervisor / Shift Engineer
Job Purpose
The CCR Operator is responsible for monitoring and controlling plant operations from the Central Control Room to ensure safe, reliable, and efficient operation of the power generation units. The role involves maintaining operational parameters within approved limits, responding to operational abnormalities, coordinating with field operators, and supporting plant production targets while complying with safety, quality, and environmental standards.
Key Responsibilities
- Operate and monitor power generation units through DCS, SCADA, PLC, and other control systems.
- Monitor plant parameters and take corrective actions to maintain safe and efficient plant operations.
- Coordinate closely with Field Operators and Shift Supervisors during routine operations, start-ups, shutdowns, and emergency situations.
- Identify equipment abnormalities, perform initial troubleshooting, and raise maintenance requests when required.
- Maintain accurate operational logs, records, and shift handover reports.
- Execute plant operating procedures, work instructions, and standard operating procedures (SOPs).
- Support equipment isolation and restoration activities in accordance with Lock Out Tag Out (LOTO) and Permit to Work procedures.
- Monitor plant performance and contribute to operational reliability and efficiency improvements.
- Provide guidance and on-the-job training to junior operators when required.
- Ensure compliance with all Health, Safety, Security, Environmental (HSSE), Quality, and operational standards.
- Report operational deviations, incidents, and safety concerns promptly.
- Perform any other duties assigned by management.
Education
- Diploma in Engineering or a related Technical Discipline.
Experience
- Minimum 4 years of experience as a CCR Operator or Control Room Operator in a CCGT Power Plant, Thermal Power Plant, or Water Desalination Plant.
- Experience operating DCS, SCADA, PLC, and other control systems.
- Experience in plant start-up, shutdown, troubleshooting, and power generation operations.
Required Skills
- Strong knowledge of Power Plant operations and processes.
- Experience with DCS, SCADA, PLC, and other plant control systems.
- Understanding of plant equipment, operating procedures, and safety requirements.
- Knowledge of troubleshooting and problem-solving techniques.
- Awareness of HSSE and Quality Management Systems.
- Ability to interpret trends, alarms, and plant operating data.
- Good planning, coordination, and communication skills.
- Teamwork and collaboration abilities.
- Good report writing and shift handover skills.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office and plant operating systems.
Preferred Experience
- Experience in large-scale CCGT power plants.
- Exposure to outage management and plant performance optimization.
- Experience working in an Independent Power Project (IPP) environment.
Work Environment
The role is based in the Central Control Room and involves working in rotating shifts to support 24/7 plant operations. The CCR Operator will work closely with Shift Supervisors, Field Operators, Maintenance Teams, and other Operations personnel to ensure safe and reliable plant performance.
