Job Purpose
• Perform laboratory analysis, testing and evaluation of samples to support plant operations.
• Ensure accurate testing and sampling in compliance with NOMAC policies, quality standards, and HSE procedures.
Key Responsibilities
Laboratory Testing • Receive, check, register and analyze laboratory samples.
• Conduct chemical and physical tests and issue accurate and timely test reports.
• Ensure testing follows planned schedules and operational requirements.
• Maintain awareness of regulatory requirements, MSDS, plant P&IDs, SOPs, work instructions, and emergency procedures.
Plant Chemistry Support • Interpret laboratory results to help establish and optimize plant operating parameters.
• Support Operations team in process‑related matters to improve plant performance and yield.
• Support internal and external Quality, Health, Safety and Environmental audits and implement corrective actions.
Laboratory Operations • Coordinate annual third‑party calibration of laboratory instruments as per IMS requirements.
• Investigate chemical or process‑related operational issues and submit recommendations to the Chief Chemist.
• Maintain adequate stock of chemicals, consumables, glassware, and laboratory equipment to ensure uninterrupted operations.
Health, Safety, Quality & Compliance • Follow all organisational, departmental, quality, safety, security and environmental policies and procedures.
• Ensure safe handling, storage and use of chemicals in line with regulatory and HSE requirements.
Continuous Improvement & Other Duties • Participate in continuous improvement initiatives and change programmes.
• Perform any other duties as assigned by the line manager.
Communication & Working Relationships
• Internal: Chief Chemist, Operations team, Maintenance team
• External: N/A
Qualifications, Experience & Skills
Minimum Qualifications • Bachelor’s Degree in Chemistry or Chemical Engineering
Minimum Experience • Minimum 3 years’ laboratory experience in a reputed plant, preferably in power or water desalination.
Skills & Knowledge • Strong knowledge of laboratory testing and data analysis
• Understanding of chemical and environmental processes in power/desalination plants
• Knowledge of regulatory and environmental compliance
• Awareness of health and environmental impact of chemicals
• Time management, planning, organizing and communication skills
• Certified environmental and safety qualification (preferred)
