Chief Chemist

Job Summary

Supervise, control and ensure that all parameters related to plant chemistry are maitained within the limits. Environmental compliance and laboratory activities are accomplished in accordance with regulatory requirements, procedures, schedules, cost budgeted and quality standards.

Roles & Responsibilities

  1. Comply with safety rules and regulations. Be fully aware of the safety hazards in the plant.
  2. Familiarise with regulatory requirements pertaining to environamental compliance, chemical used in the plant, MSDS, plant P&IDs, SOPs, Work instructions, as well as the emergency operation procedures and any other related documents.
  3. Ensure and maitained all the records related to plant chemistry.
  4. Ensure that activities are carried out to the established standards without risk to personel, equipment and environment.
  5. Ensure availability of all chemicals, dosing and testing equipments by effective planning. Responsible for annual and preventive maintenance of dosing and testing equipment.
  6. Review and approve plans, procedures and schedule for plant chemistry like acid cleaning, boil out.
  7. Prepare reports and suggest recommendations to Operation Manager for any modification in chemistry regime.
  8. Supervise, direct and co-ordinate the activities of all personnel assigned to Chemical Section.
  9. To ensure availability of bulk chemicals, fine chemicals, glasswares and other consumables and to raise Purchase Requisitions as and when required.
  10. Ensure availability of MSDS for all chemicals.
  11. Ensure calibration of all laboratory equipment.
  12. Ensure regular measurement of water quality in the lab and suggest corrective actions, if required.
  13. Responsible for proper monitoring and report related stack emission.
  14. Ensure proper waste disposal measures are implemented.
  15. Provide on-the-job training to new employees and evaluate their OJT Performance.
  16. Perform other duties as assigned.

Job Specifications

Educational

Desired

  • Master Degree in Chemistry or Degree in Chemical Engineering

Preferred

  • Certified Environmental and Safety Qualification.

Minimum Experience (Type and Duration)

Minimum

  • 10 years

Preferable

  • Above 10 years

Required Skills

  1. Awareness of Quality, Occupational Health & Safety and Environment Management system principles.
  2. In-depth knowledge of applicable regulatory requirements.
  3. Hazard Risk Assessment.
  4. Aspect Impact Assessment.
  5. Knowledge of environmental and health impact of chemicals being used in the plant.
  6. Should be well conversed with Power/Desalination Operational activities.
  7. Excellent decision making.
  8. Excellent Analytical.
  9. Very good leadership ability.

Desired Certification / Job Specific Skill / Training

  • SAP working knowledge is preferred.
  • ISO9001, 14001, OHSAS 18001 awareness/working knowledge is preferred.
