Coal/Ash Shift supervisor

Job Description: 

Coal and Ash Shift Supervisor will supervise, control and coordinate coal plant and ash plant shift operational activities to ensure timely coal supply to power plant and effectively ash evacuation from power plant in accordance with established schedules, quality, cost and time objectives. Responsible for safe start-up/shut down of the plant as per the Standard Operating Procedures.

 

Operations Management

  • Organize and ensure that coal and ash plant operations are carried out to the required standard with minimum risk to staff, machine and materials, and ensure compliance to safety and environmental standards at all times
  • Coordinate all activities jointly with the operations teams as well as the site contractors associated with fuel and ash management, and in compliance with safety rules and regulations. Have a complete understanding of the permit to work system applied to the plant. And issue and cancel permits to work as per authorization. Work with the operations shift team to ensure plant operations requirements can be met effectively. Oversee the main contracts associated fuel and ash management from the transhipment including on site stockyard and coal delivery up to the bunker (inclusive of conveyers, towers and associated plant). Oversee collection of coal and ash samples required for analysis by the chemist
  • Monitor the overall status of the coal and ash plant and summarize activities in the daily log. Keep up to date the daily plant status reports, and relay all activities that occurrence. Ensure that there is an effective and efficient coal and ash shift handover

Technical Guidance

  • Follow pre-set operational schedules to fulfil the planned production targets safely and efficiently. Coordinate all activities or changes in plant status with the day operations section head as necessary
  • Make necessary on the spot decisions to correct abnormalities or disturbances, seek additional support and advice as they see fit to enable the right decisions to be taken. Take corrective actions during a state of emergency and provide leadership to coordinate all activities as required. Supervise the interlock checks on start-ups, and supervise and support all plant testing, and also provide guidance and supervision during non-routine activities such as coal and ash plant preservation during periods of long shutdowns, and provide support during the outage period as and when required

Maintenance Support

  • Monitor the overall status of the coal and ash plant and summarize activities in the daily log. Keep up to date the daily plant status reports, and relay all activities that occurrence. Ensure that there is an effective and efficient coal and ash shift handover.
  • Prepare incident / accident reports and other reports required by the departments. Keep accurate records and prepare daily and monthly reports. Assist in the training and familiarization of new team members and contactors. Identify and provide suggestions where plant improvements and modifications can improve the plant safe and effective operation and plant efficiency

Skills:

  • Knowledge of relevant plant equipment

Minimum Qualifications:

  • 3 Year’s Technical Diploma in Engineering
  • 7 - 10 years’ experience in coal fired power plant specially in fuel and ash management, ideally with jetty fuel delivery experience.
